Sword, Flammard
Sword, Longsword, Blade, German, Landsknecht, Swiss, Latin Europe
A large two handed sword with a wave shaped blade. A variation on the montante or zweihander two handed infantry sword, the wave-shaped blade seems to enhance cutting, particularly draw-cutting. These were found throughout Latinized Europe starting in the second hlaf of the 15th Century.
A modern replica of a 16th Century German Flammard with a complex hilt featuring side rings and finger rings, made by Dr Fabrice Cognot, bladesmith (image used with permission) based on the art of Lucas Cranach, with just a hint of Judas Priest.
A somewhat larger, Zweihander sized Flammard, South German or Swiss circa 1510
