A spear with a very short haft of 3-4 feet. Can be used like a sword.Short, half-sized spears like this have been in use through history, going back to the late Bronze Age at least. They were notably an important weapon of the Zulu (as the Iklwa) during the 19th and early 20th Centuries. Iklwa were made by shortening the haft of the larger Assegai spear, an innovation credited to Shaka.
