This is simply a glaive polearm, which has received a ‘field modification' by a soldier, usually consisting of hacking off or removing the normal long haft (which could be anywhere from 6’ to 10’ long, or more) and fashioning some kind of hand grip to hold the remaining blade like a sword. This is a massive blade, and not ideally balanced as a hand weapon, but it also does considerable damage. If it was made from a glaive-guisarme It also has a useful blade catcher, which assists in defense. This is a nasty weapon which can cause devastating wounds, but is relatively clumsy so good to use in conjunction with a shield. It appears in period artwork in the hands of grizzled, veteran soldiers.
