A large dagger with a blade in the range of 12-16". These weapons are typically double-edged, with relatively rigid blades that come to a sharp point. Many larger daggers have at least small quillions, or some other feature to help prevent the hand from sliding over the blade when stabbing with these weapons. One popular type with a double-lobed, rounded guard was popularly called a 'ballock dagger'. These were very popular in England, the Low Countries, France and Northern Germany. The Swiss Baselard, another variant found in Southern Germany, the Swiss Confederation and in northern Italy, usually had at least small quillions. Some with larger quillions could be considered blocking or parrying daggers.
