Sword, hand and a half
Sword, Longsword, Blade, Sidearm, Latin Europe, British Isles, German, Czech, Slavic, Scotland, Ireland
This is basically a small bastard sword or longsword (see Bastard Sword, Longsword) designed for civilian or semi-civilian use as a personal defense weapon or a riding sword. These swords usually feature a stiff, flattened diamond or diamond shaped blade and a sharp profile taper ending in a very sharp point, though there are also broader blades more made for cutting. Oakeshott type XVa is a typical example of the former type.
This type of sword is much smaller than a longsword, in the neighbourhood of 42-44” (106-110 cm) in total length. These are versatile, very quick fencing weapons, effective close in or at range, featuring both a very sharp edge and a lethal needle point. AP bonus applies to thrusts only.
